Recipe details
Ingredients
- 220ml lukewarm water
- 1 1/4 tsp fast rise yeast
- 300g plain flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp golden caster sugar
Instructions
- Pre heat your air fryer to 200ºc and line the tray with greaseproof paper.
- Combine the water and yeast in a bowl and mix well. Leave for 5 minutes.
- In a medium bowl combine the flour, salt and sugar. Pour in the water and yeast mixture and bring together until you have a smooth and non sticky dough. Add a little more flour if it’s too sticky, or a little more water if it’s too dry.
- Dust your work surface with flour and divide the dough into four pieces. Roll in to four ropes and cut into 1 inch pieces. Lay on the air fryer tray and brush with melted butter. Bake for 7 minutes (you may have to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer)
- Once they are ready brush with melted butter again and sprinkle with your chosen seasoning - so good enjoyed warm with sour cream dip! Alternatively you can brush them with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar for a sweet version with a caramel dipping sauce.
What are Pretzel Bites?
Pretzel bites are small, bite-sized pieces of pretzel dough that are soft on the inside and chewy on the outside - not dissimilar to a regular pretzel. They can be sweet, savoury or filled with things such as caramel, cheese, pizza sauce etc. You can also keep them plain and vary dips such as sour cream, caramel, sweet chilli . . . whatever takes your fancy!
Pretzel Bites make tasty snacks and as they are baked not fried they are a healthier snacking option to things such as crisps.
How to store home made Pretzel Bites
Whilst they are best fresh from the air fryer, you can keep these in an air tight container for a couple of days. I highly recommend re heating for a few minutes in the air fryer before enjoying, just to give them the freshness back.
