Recipe details
Ingredients
- 1 roll of ready made puff pastry
- 6 tbsp grated mozzarella
- 6 tbsp pizza sauce (tomato puree and pesto also work well)
- 6 slices of pepperoni (feel free to swap for protein or veggies of your choice)
- 1 egg for glazing
Optional - fresh basil
Instructions
- Pre heat the oven to 190ºc and line two trays with greaseproof paper.
- Unroll your puff pastry and cut into either six equal rectangles, or shapes of your choice (we used hearts as we made these for valentines day) Lay each shape on to your prepared tray at least 2cm apart.
- Gently score a 0.5 cm border around the edge of each pastry, taking care not to cut all the way through (adults help with this part)
- Spoon the pizza sauce into the middle of each pastry and spread within the border, topping with the mozzarella, pepperoni if using and some torn basil leaves. Brush round the border edge of each pizza with egg wash and bake for ten minutes.
Why are these Pizza Puffs so easy to make with kids?
With exception to the oven part where they will need assistance, this recipe requires very simple and safe process steps, such as using cookie cutters, spreading the sauce and sprinkling the toppings on. It is a great recipe for baking with kids as they are able to feel in control of more or less the whole process, leading to a greater satisfaction at the end and an increased likelihood of them eating and enjoying the food.
Do I have to use Puff Pastry?
You could also used pizza dough (ready made or home made). I have used puff as it is very easy to work with and always delivers great results.
