Mango Lassi

Can I use an under ripe mango?

Anyone else find mangoes are like avocados - you wait all week for them to ripen, take your eyes off them for 5 minutes and they are a squid overripe mess! You can use an under ripe mango in a smoothie, but I wouldn't recommend. It may be less sweet but can still contribute to the flavour - balance with sweet ingredients and blend longer for smooth consistency.

Ways to finely chop and grind ingredients

If you find grinding and chopping ingredients fiddly and frustrating, then my top tip is to invest in a coffee bean grinder. I ordered mine from Amazon for under £20 but I use it to grind and chop all sorts in seconds. From nuts, to cardamom, to hibiscus . . . It saves so much time, and not forgetting you can also grind your coffee beans fresh daily too then! If you don't own a coffee bean grinder, a simple knife or pestle and mortar can get the job done too. If you don't own a pestle and mortar to grind the cardamom, just use a bowl and the end of a rolling pin - there is always something lying around you can improvise with without spending a fortune!

Can I use frozen mango?

Yes, you can, but I would omit the ice cubes because it would likely make the smoothie too think. If it does look a little thick then just add a splash of milk.

How to layer up your blender when making a smoothie

When filling your smoothie maker, I always add the softer / liquid ingredients first. So in this case I would start with the Greek yoghurt, followed by the honey, fresh mango, cardamom and ice. Blend until smooth. This recipe will make two small glasses or one large one.

Garnishing tip:

Sprinkle with chopped pistachios and dried rose petals for a pretty finish, or enjoy without - your choice!
